That is a good question! In the 80's the U.S. used the dictator Saddam (helped to power by the U.S.!) to help reinstated the Shaw (dictator!) for the democratically elected government in Iran. U.S. supplied Saddam with weapons, including WMDs!, which Saddam used with U.S. knowledge against Kurds and Iran.

Do they really want to establish Democracy or just control of the oil in both countries? I would bet on the oil!

Yes - in the 80s the US supported Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein in his was against Ayatollah Khomeini's Iran.

well I you look at it that way, didn't we have a war with japan, or viet nam, so I guess what is food for the goose, is food for the gander, and since the US cannot protect innocent civilians in Iraq, why shouldn't thei dully elected governement approach their old enemy and ask them for help.

Yes,but things change.The US supported Osama during russia's invasion of afghanistan.Supported saddam.Supported Noriega too.
