I hear a lot of modern people say that they think judgement day will be coming in the near future. They say that there will be a lot of war and strife soon and God will judge humanity and solve all our problems. This troubles me because I think that people (especially our politicians) may expect war and suffering so much that they end up causing it. I also think that since people (again some politicians) expect the end of the world as we know it, they may not plan for the future by taking care of the environment. Any thoughts on this?

I completely agree, except for the speculation that the environment might not get taken care of, simply based on the fact that there has been little done to help the environment all along.
With that said, I do feel Christians are living out a self fulfilling prophecy, as it is in human nature to create that which is most thought about. I do think it is an unfortunate reality, and something should be done about it! The problem, I feel, is really a no win situation though, considering that we are free to practice any religion we choose, and anyone has the potential to become a politician. It's an inherent catch 22 situation.

George Washington dedicated himself to three hours of Bible study and prayer every morning before he would meet with anyone.
Benjamin Franklin said that we should open every session with prayer, for who can expect to build a country without the help of God.
Thomas Jefferson was not as religious, he seemed to believe that a divine creator made all things and then stepped back to watch it run itself, he did not believe in a personal God.
Our laws were based on the Bible.
Since the early 60s we have slowly walked away from the faith that built this great nation.
The end will come, but we do not know exactly when, even the Bible says that no one knows the time or the day, but the Father in heaven.
But thorough reading of scriptures affirms that the time is getting very close, but how Christians know that is not part of this discussion.
I think the only thing that comes from knowing that the time is near is Christians do not want anyone to perish, because God said that he did not want anyone to perish but for all to have everlasting life.
If a Christian knows the time is near, he will be doing his best to win as many of his friends to Christ as he is able.

You hit the nail on the head with this one! It is a proven fact that Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Ben Franklin did not want religion to have any sway in our government. Yet here we are with the crusader Bush as our president.

Think about if governments did not allow relgion to influence decisions...there would be no animosity between the Middle East and the West, no ethnic cleansing, no racist policies, no crusades, no jihads, no holocaust, no persecution of proven sciences that could benefit mankind...

World peace may actually be a possibility...

Religious beliefs have always influenced American political policy. The majority of the founding fathers were Christan's. Also, regarding your environmental comments, did you know Richard Nixon who was a Quaker, established the EPA?

That is a naive and narrow-minded view fostered by the anti-christian media. People vote or are supposed to vote their conscience i.e what they believe is right or wrong. I am more frightened of people believing they are above a God or Gods and therefore lack any kind of moral restraint i.e Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong.
Ultimately, humans are to blame because of human greed and paranoia's they just make a particular philosophy fit it.
Neither religions or atheism can claim moral superiority.

I might add that Christianity played a leading role in anti-slavery, anti-child labor, anti-war, anti-communist, anti-fascism, and anti-poverty causes when governments looked the other way.

It's already happening. The attitude you are referring to is called Dispensationalism, and it's been written about in many places. These folks are a grave danger to the world.

The end of the world will come, despite the politicans and what they do or don't do. Please read Revelation, the last book of the Bible, for a full explanation about the end of time.
