The book came first. It was written by Valentine Davies in 1947 and was adapted the same year for the movie. He won the Academy Award for Best Story. Now it sometimes takes years before a book is made into a movie. I wonder if many other movies were adapted so quickly back then. Edit: Here are a few movies based on books from the 30's and 40's: The Wizard of Oz Gone With The Wind Cheaper By The Dozen Anna and The King of Siam The Egg and I

There are two versions, actually. The original, with Natalie Wood, is a classic, but I also enjoyed the remake, done in 1994, starring Elisabeth Perkins, Dylan McDermott and Sir Richard Attenborough as Santa was great too.

I see it most years at Christmas. I also have it on video, and watch it in the middle of the year occasionally.

I believe it's the more recent version I've seen. I'm 18. It's the one with the girl from Matilda in it. I've forgotten her name.

Anyway, it's a brilliant feel good movie, so enjoy!!!

The version with Natalie Wood and Ms. Maureen O'Hara is very good. When something withstands the passing of time, and people still watch it, buy it, talk about it, then don't you think it's worth your time to check out?

No need to worry about language or subject content. It's 100% children friendly and will make the adult want to wipe away a tear.

Get it and enjoy!

There is little I can add to the glowing reviews. It is worth noting that the studio thought so little of the movie at the time it was made that it was brought to movie theatres in the summer. Talk about an error.

Ild have to say that it is an amazing video. Both the original version as well as the newer version is great. Its right on up there with White Christmas (Sinatra, Crosby, and Clonney) and the one with Jimmy Stewart

The original with Margaret O'Brien form the 1930's was full of the warmth that most associate with the Christmas season. Remakes all fall short. Thanks for the reminder, I am adding it to my Christmas movie marathon.
