My son-in-law passed away recently and his wife, my daughter can't remember his password. It's frustrating because we both knew it but whenever we try to use what we think is the password it rejects it

Adding on to what the first guy said, it is almost impossible to get any documents that are on his account. If you just want use of the computer do what that first guy said and reinstall the OS and create a new user account.

If it is a version of X,then,boot with the install cd. From the pull down menu select "reset password". If OS 9, I don't remember how to reset password but try starting up with extensions off.

I believe that you can boot up using the original disks and create a new user with priviledges. Search the Mac help and I am sure it will give you that information. Once you have created a new identity with full permissions, you should be able to delete the old identity.
