1992 Ford Explorer. Recently changed cable connectors and like-new converter. I jumped it after changing the connectors and it worked fine for a week. I parked it for a week and when I tried to start it the engine wouldn't even turn over. I get a clicking noise when it is hooked up to another car but after 10 minutes of charging there is no change. PLEASE HELP.

If you hear a clicking noise each time you try to start the truck, the solenoid is making the noise, and therefore it's probably good. But anyway, here is the procedure.

Check the voltage at the solenoid's small terminals as someone turns the key to the start position. Should have 12 at each. If none to the input side, you have an open circuit. If none at the output side, bad solenoid. If both are good, check the large terminals on the solenoid. If there are 12 volts at the input but none at the output, change solenoid. If 12 volts at both, check the voltage at the solenoid's output terminal and the starter's wire connection, again as someone turns the key. If there are 12 volts at the former and not the latter, the cable is bad. If there is voltage to the starter, then the starter is bad, unless the engine is seized. If that is the case then the best starter in the world won't crank it over. Beware that there used to be a problem on Ford starters where the wire connecting stud would loosen up a little and making appear that the starter was bad. Check that out with a wiggle because that loosness is easily fixed, but has the same symptoms of a bad starter.

The psychic mechanic believes that the threads on the solenoid terminal were damaged when the cables were installed by subsequent arcing, thus making a lose connection and draining battery, you should replace the solenoid, and attach the cable to the battery after attaching it to the solenoid.

Check specifically the ground wires. If it worked recently the starter shoudl not be the issue, starters by design USUALLY give plently of notice that they are dying (grinding, dragging when starting the engine) although not always.

MAKE SURE ALL CABLES ARE CLEAN AND TIGHT BEFORE YOU CONDEMN YOUR STARTER, THIS INCLUDES GROUND CONNECTIONS. DOES SOUND LIKE A BAD BATTERY AND IF IT IS BAD ENOUGH IT WILL NOT EVEN HELP TO JUMP WITH ANOTHER CAR

Sounds like the starter motor needs attention.

Take the starter in for testing. That's most likely your problem.
