Log into your firewall/router using the IP address and enable WEP encryption, and change the administrator user name and password. If you haven't done so, you can find the default IP address assigned to it in the manual. something like 198.0.0.1, then plug that IP in the address bar in your browser and you will be prompted to enter the user name and password. which is by default usually user: admin password: administrator or vice versa. You can also check what your firewall IP is by going to the start menu, selecting run, and typing cmd then press enter. a dos window opens and you type ipconfig, then press enter, some info is returned the gateway IP is your firewall/router IP address. Once logged through the browser go to the advanced or security tab and make the necessary adjustments. for more step by step instructions I suggest visiting the manufacuter web site, consulting the manual, or googling something like "setting up secure wireless network Linksys (or whatever)"

1st you should understand that there is no "Fort Knox" in the computer world!
To mitigate the risks associated with using a wireless router you should, at a minimum do the following:
1. Use WPA (not WEP)
2. Use PSK (set up a key that only you know, and can remember)
3. Use data encryption (like TKIP)
4. Change admin password on router (using strong password)
5. Use an extremely strong PSK (15 characters, alphanumeric, uppercase, lowercase and special characters)
The best you could do is use hardware and software firewalls together, but adhere to the 5 steps listed above and you will be able to sleep at night.
Just remember, YOU ARE NEVER SAFE from someone who wants in and has time on his/her hands.

Your wireless router can be set for encription and to require a password. I recommend doing that or any neighbor will be able to use your wireless network free of charge. That could degrade your bandwidth and cause you all kinds of problems.

i imagine you advise "How am i able to be particular my associates can't thieve my signal?" in case you try to attach with your wireless and it has a password on it, then your instantaneous community is shelter. i ought to signify placing the safe practices element to WPA as a replace of WEP. think about to move into the router setup to modify the password and the safe practices ranges. The default IP handle for most routers is 192.168.a million.a million. form that throughout your internet browser's handle bar and it ought to ask for a username and password. The username is mostly "admin" and on Linksys routers the default password is "admin". On Netgear routers the default password is "password". desire this helps.
