The World Almanac says it's Alaska because part of it lies on the other side of the 180 degree meridian and in the Eastern hemisphere. The location of the International Date Line is irrelevant, as the hemispheres are defined by the Prime and 180 Meridians.

Ah, Zanik 99-----an oldie but a goodie.

The Easternmost State, Just like the Westernmost and Northernmost is Alaska.

Since the International Date Line passes through the Aleutian Island chain, which is part of Alaska, some portions of the State are at almost 180 degrees West Longitude and some are at nearly 180 degrees East Longitude.

Maine.
Apparently, some of your answerers would travel east to get to Alaska - it's going to be a very long journey that way.

As I understand it, the date line was readjusted to move all the Aleutians onto the same side. That makes Maine the Easternmost.

Alaska. It's chain of islands goes so far west that some actually lie on the other side of the International Date Line, making them the eastmost part of the US.
