Did anyone else notice that Jerry Seinfeld made him apologize (not so) coincidentally right before season 7 of Seinfeld comes out on DVD? The whole thing seems a bit contrived to me.

It was very strange that he apologized on Letterman, and even Richards appeared to realize it as he was doing the apology. You also have to remember that Richards is actually pretty introverted and grabbing all that negative attention so quickly was probably disorienting. Jesse Jackson for better or worse is a major spokesperson for the community, so it isn't a bad recovery strategy to turn to Jackson for support, but I doubt it will produce miracles for Richards.

I doubt he is a true racist seeing how occasional black cast members joined Seinfeld (notably the fast talking lawyer, remember him?) I admit I did not see the video of Michael Richards going off on the heckler. However, I have read it was a shouting match where Kramer used several instances of profane racist language and the effect on the audience was shocking. Later Kramer did apologize and Seinfeld too supported his friend and said Michael Richards surely feels bad. Think about the pressure on Michael Richards after the relative success of Jerry Seinfeld in light of a TV show spun around the notion of a stand-up comic becoming successful.

His Letterman apology was lame and appeared fake. Whenever celebrities make faux pas (and this was a big one) their PA's always have them make a public apology. These "apologies" are usually arbitrary and sound insincere. Fire_God_ made a good point. I'm sure that Seinfeld and everyone else that makes money off the show and dvd's are particularly unhappy with Richards. Except for Julia-Louis. The Seinfeld money is piddly compared to the huge chunk of change she inherited from her father who was worth well over 2 billion.

I heard he made some kind of racial slur at a comedy show or something like that. I don't think he should deal with Jesse Jackson. In my opinion it is people like Jesse Jackson that keep racism going.

It's all so pathetic. Who gives a rats @$$ if he called a n*ggar a n*ggar!?! I get called a fat ***** now and again too, you don't see me boo-hoo-ing over it. All people are entitled to say whatever they wish rather it's right or wrong. And believe it or not, there are worse things that a person could be besides a "racist" like a mass murderer or a child molester. People need to get over it!!!
I mean, what was the guy in the audience behaving like? And there you have it.
