I'm sure many of you watched the recent taping of the Oprah Winfrey show in Chicago where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger. On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true. Statements like "..."If I'd known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish and Asians would buy my clothes, I WOULD NOT have made them so nice. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes, as they are made for upper class white people."
His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES".
Whereafter she immediately asked him to leave her show.

A suggestion? Don't buy your next shirt or perfume from Tommy Hilfiger.
Let him get what he asked for.
Let's not buy his clothes, let's put him in a financial state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes.
BOYCOTT.

If we are small, then send it to the whole community and see the
result. We have to see the result of unity. Stop buying all range of
Hillfiger products, perfume, cosmetics, clothes, bags etc

Wow, I don't know if that's true or not; I'll have to check that out. If so, then good for Oprah! Even so, I can't afford Hilfiger clothing anyway. lol And even if I could, I probably wouldn't buy it. It's kinda preppy; and that's not who I am at all.

Edit: I checked out the Snopes link provided by the person above, and it is indeed a rumor, and nothing more. Glad to hear that. I'd hate to think that a designer with as big of a name as Tommy Hilfiger would be so narrow-minded. I doubt that he would be as successful as he is, if this were true. Oh well. I still can't afford his label. LOL

This has proven to be a hoax. Tommy Hilfiger has never been on Oprah and denies that he ever made such statements. Oprah has also commented that Tommy has not been on her show and that the statements are a total fabrication as far as she is concerned.

This is an older hoax. Much more popular before all the 9/11 conspiracies.

You begin by asking if anyone knows if this is true or not, and quickly move to arranging a boycott of his products. Wait until you find out if it is true or not before boycotting. And you know what, I was in Wal-mart this week and they had a product in the hair care department that said it was made specifically for black hair and had a picture of a black man on the front. How dare they make something specifically for a black man and not for everybody. That must be racist, right? And actually, if the fact about Tommy Hilfiger turns out to be true, you are playing right into his hands by refusing to buy his products. He says he doesn't want you to, so you both agree. A better reply would be to buy his products but cut his label off of them before you wear them.

I heard he never appeared on her show, That came out of Opera's mouth her self on one of the shows that she aired. She said she don't know how those rumors got started. At least the first time. I have no idea about the second time, but that's a new one to me, but being African American my self. No i don't think he's a racist Ive seen him engage with plenty of different races. He has a lot of models from all over the globe. I think that whole things was some made up story that just got way out of hand. I still buy things for my children from there. All i know is that my dad refuse to where him, because of that alleged rumor, but that's his loss. If he has something i want i will buy it. He seems to be a good man!

It's sad how people are so eager to believe the worst about someone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning paying exorbitant amounts of money on clothing, but could you at least do some research before calling people racist?

I also agree that taking a stand against racism is important, but let's not call a witch hunt.

Edit: congrats to bethanysmama for her due diligence.

thewirelessguy999's answer is the best answer you've gotten. I just wanted to add that most forwarded emails are not true. The site he mentioned, www.snopes.com, is a good source to check out any suspect email you receive.

In this case, you just have to enter "Tommy Hilfiger" on Snope's search engine to find the report on the false email. I recommend that everyone use this site. I can't believe how many people answered you saying they believed this rumour! Scary!

All those ones that declare some money or something will move to someone or you receives something (money, coupon, loose meal) are all bogus. there is not any way those are tracked to confirm in the experience that they get handed on. have not you spotted that those that declare something will take position on your computing gadget as a prize or contained in the snail mail under no circumstances occurs. about the absolutely ingredient which could take position on your computing gadget after easily a spread of issues can be a pandemic/malicious software, in spite of the indisputable fact that it rather is all.

despite if you believe if it's rumors or not, true or false, racist or not, it's what some of us like to call FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!! who cares if he made it for a certain race. there are clothes out there that blacks will wear and whites won't. the companies have done this forever-catered to a certain crowd. it's just like a kid store catering to kids and not adults. or a big and tall store catering only to those who are big and tall. he can say what he wants. in case ya'll have forgotten America is a free country. He can say what he wants. it's oprah who needs to get her head examined if this is true. she's been known to be "a voice for blacks" and making a school in Africa for only little black girls. ya know there are several of white african girls who can't afford to go to school either. she handpicked black girls only to go to the school. she's the one who's racist between the two if you ask me.

I never saw that show, if this is true I am disgusted as well. No I would not buy his products. Those high priced things find no interested in me anyway. The people he speaks of are usual hard working people who don't buy into that nonesense anyway. Throwing their money away is not high on their list, commonsense is very universal. I like that.
