Well, my husband accidentally blew away ALL of our music files. However, my iPod still has them all on it. Our itunes now has VERy few songs in it, and I'm afraid if I plug the iPod in, the current, minimal itunes will overwrite all of my music on the iPod. Is this the case?

Is there a way I can get the music from my iPod BACK into the computer?

Thanks!

This happened to me recently, when I lost everything on my computer.

Unfortunately, I was unable to transfer the songs from my iPod back to my re-formatted computer. (Note that iTunes saves everything on your iPod in a different format - your iPod does not act like an external hard drive.)

Try plugging your iPod in. iTunes will not automatically overwrite your songs. It will provide you with a prompt first.

For me, it said something like this computer does not match the profile on my iPod, and that if I want to connect the two, it will overwrite everything on my iPod.

Of course, I chose not to link it right now, until I build up the library on my computer again.

It's possible that it might give you a different message when you link up your iPod. You can always cancel if it threatens to overwrite.

This is what I did when I was in your situation:

1. open iTunes
2. open iTunes preferences-this will keep iTunes from detecting your iPod.
3. connect iPod, wait about 15 seconds
4. open "my computer"
5. go to "Tools" menu, Folder options, "view" tab, enable "show hidden files and folders"
6. open iPod icon on "my computer" (removable hardware"
7. open iPod_control folder
8. there should be a folder named "music"
9. drag this folder somewhere in your desktop
10. after the copy completes, right click on the "music folder" in the desktop and select properties.
11. clear the checkmark next to "hidden"
12. close that explorer window.
13. eject the iPod using the "Safely remove hardware" icon in the system tray. (it has a green arrow) Right click and select safely remove. in the next window, click "stop" then "ok" in the next window.then close to complete the ejection
14. disconnect the iPod from the computer.
15. go back to iTunes and close the "preferences" window.
16, go to the "file" menu, "add folder to library", find the "music folder copied from the iPod. the folder will begin transferring to your library (this may take a couple of minutes depending on the amount of songs)
17. your library should be complete once again!!

Usually the computer will ask if you want to override the songs in you Ipod. Once you are in Itunes and your Ipod is plugged in you can drag the songs to your library.

I'm not completly sure...but, I think so...b/c your iPod is just an external hard drive that reads all the files off your computer...and if their not on your computer, then your iPod can't read them....and your iPod isn't a computer, so it can't put the music back onto your computer either....

I'm not a 100% sure but, I'm assuming that's right...

Sorry...you might want to ban your husband from using the computer again...j/k..lol...

First, you decide on a usb cord. Plug your usb cord into your workstation and open itunes. There could be a tab which will open up in some 2d below a similar tab that proclaims music, it particularly is going to be below my devises. click on that, then verify out the record in the backside, click "sync purely checked songs and movies" and verify songs you decide directly to characteristic
