As far as % goes, I believe the Northern New England States (Maine-New Hampshire-Vermont) may be the highest % white...
Those that list states like Idaho, Wyoming, Utah forget that there are Native American populations in higher %s than Northern New England, where there are few non-whites of any race
I would agree with the fact that in raw numbers, California is the highest (though ironically may have the lowest % of white people of any state in the USA)

The most recent US Census shows that most any place in the upper 1/2 of the US mainland is predominantly white. I live in Seattle, where most of the state is white. Living here is like living in a giant loaf of white bread with the occassional spicy side dish thrown in. But like any other place in America, there are "pockets" in cities made up of black, mexican, asian and indian, so I'd have to agree with the little lady previous to this post about search for cities. In general, I'd have to say that Washington, Oregon, Idaho, most of Montana, Wyoming and the majority of the upper Northeast (Main, etc) are white. I grew up in Los Angeles and can say as a white guy that I know where the white areas are for the same reason blacks know where the black areas are ;)

funny, the black people know this, not the whites.
Kansas has a lot of black people, btw.
If you are wondering about where to move than I would suggest looking at cities rather than states.

the highest percentage? probably Wyoming.
the highest number? California... With 30+ million people, there's more of everyone there.
