Of course they can. The biggest problem for the pitching staff has been resolved. The bullpen blew close to 29 leads late in games last year. They've inked Wickman, a proven closer, to an extension. Smoltz and a healthy Hudson will certainly help. They're also getting Mike Hampton back from Tommy John surgery and Glavine may make a return. With a rotation of Smoltz, Hampton, Hudson, Glavine and John Davies, they'll be alright. Middle relief and set up are where they need to improve, but the farm is deep and talented. Now if we can only get a quality lead off man. Look at the offense. Renteria, Chipper, Andruw, LaRoche, McCann, Francouer (very low average and still close to 30hr and 100 rbi) and Giles. Productive lineup-if healthy.

Not unless they do something during the off-season. So far, the only thing they've done is let Baez (or however you spell it) sign with the Orioles and let a couple of others walk away as well. They haven't done a thing to improve themselves. Probably because Time-Warner is pulling the pursestrings tighter and tighter. They need to pull off a good trade. Since he will probably leave as a free agent at the end of the season, they need to move Andruw Jones for some pitching help, or sign a free-agent like Jeff Suppan who should come relatively cheap and who will still win about 15 games. Or, they could move Marcus Giles and pick up someone who can be a leadoff hitter since he doesn't like doing it. Right now, the Braves look like they're doomed to finish behind the Mets, Phillies and Marlins next season.

no, unfortunatley they won't be able to because the mets have many star players, and the braves don't have enough talent to get to first place. they will have a chance for third place, because the phillies and the florida marlins are bith pretty good teams.

If they can find an awesome pitching staff like they had in the mid-90's than yes, they can. However, Maddux is gone, Glavine is gone, all that's left of those golden years is John Smoltz. There's always hope though. :-)

I doubt it. The Mets are probably going to win it next year as well.
