First of all, don't panic. I can't say that it gets easier, cause it doesn't. Secondly, don't look at the big pile of work and think 'oh my God, how am I gonna get through all of this?' just take one assignment at a time and once you've done it, forget about it and move on to the next one. Thirdly, use your lecturers, that's what they are there for, ask them for help, if you feel like you are getting snowed under tell them, they may be able to get you an extension.
I'm a third year and I've got four children, and I know how difficult it can be. Personally I get into the library at 6:30, stay there until it is time to go to my lecture, after my lecture I have some lunch and then go back to the library until I've done the work I wanted to do that day. I get my wife to proof read my work, it is easy to overlook mistakes especially when you've been staring at it for several days, and no I don't get time for myself.

Take a breath! The only way I survived - is to look at just 16 weeks of my life at a time. Otherwise, I would have dropped out. I had a small child and was married and lived in the country with lots of animals to take care of. Prioritize, is the key word here. Do what is due first, and then the second thing due, etc., it's hard and it took me five years to complete. I would cry sometimes and just throw my hands up, but I wanted that piece of paper so bad, I even drove 45 miles each way. It boils down to, is how bad do you want that piece of paper? You are just feeling overwhelmed, take a drive, soak in the tub and maybe vitamins will help also. It does get easier as you go along. You haven't found the right way for you to cope yet and that's okay. Don't be so hard on yourself. I know you can do it!

Hey,
Don't worry everything is normal! I only get 1 day off a week on a thursday and i some how manage to balance a job, my work and a boyfriend! Just organise and prioritise, and don't work yourself silly take a break. I find it really hard to relax because i feel guilty about not working but it will drive you crazy if you don't. I keep a strict diary and i even schedule myself time to relax!

ok right now schedule yourself time to plan.

get oout your diary and get a post it note.

The post it note should take up half a day in your diary - that is your relax time. You can move it to a different day but not a different week.

schedule everything else around that post it note.

Oh in answer to your question - yes it's normal. As one of my lectureres used to say "you are reading for a degree, if you are not reading you are should be"

Now as a teacher I spend time in tutorials with people who just have so much work to do they are in a constant state of panic - I can't do the work for them but what I can and do do is help them schedule their work load. And that includes time off.

i'm in my final year and YES its stressful, but the first couple of years are there to prepare you for the tougher final year.

you dont get as much time to yourself as you'd like (or need) but thats life i suppose. i get very stressed but when i do i go home for a night to escape and relax.

the way to keep up with it all is to have a timetable of exams and essay hand in dates on your wall so you're always a step ahead and never get taken by surprise...preparation is necessary.

if you're feeling tired all the time you need to take a break it probably means you're putting yourself under too much pressure.

its hard work, but you need to enjoy your time as a student too, i have loadsa work to do but never deny myself an occasional night out to keep my sanity...and my friends!!!

just stay calm and step away from it all once in a while

I work mornings, go to class late morning to afternoon, do homework in the afternoon, and rehearse in the evening. Just look forward to break. Good luck!
