My husbands family is doing something really fun this year for Christmas. We are making homemade gifts for the name we drew. The only problem we have is that he drew his dads name and we can't think of anything to make. Any ideas???

what boy do you know that actully LIKES clothes jen?

maybe you could make something out of wood. like, a tool box. or if you got a picture of your husband and his father when they were younger, and put it in a picture frame and painted the frame and designed it the father could set it on his desk. that's a really cute idea.

A hand knitted or crocheted scarf is easy to do, even for a beginner, and very appropriate in the middle of winter. Artistic? How about painting a picture. My daughter gave me a picture she painted when in high school; I made her sign it, had it framed, and it hangs in my home today. What about digging up some of the bulbs planted in your yard, potting them and giving that as a gift. An old photograph (maybe of their wedding or of them as a child) can be framed and could mean a lot.

I don't consider myself particularly "creative," but I came up with some several ideas and there must be things that you know about this gentleman that would make your gift even more cherished. Just give from the heart!

Might i suggest... whatever your father in laws favorite thing is example(NASCAR, fishing, etc) find a puzzle that includes that. Do the puzzle and purchase some puzzle glue. Then buy some lumbar and create a coffe table leave room in the top to place the puzzle and top off with a piece of glass. Although this may be a bit time consuming(depending on your puzzling abilities. it makes a keep sake that will last and be apreciated forever!! Good Luck and have fun.
P.S. i also suggest to maybe find logs or something to use rather than any kind of lumbar it has a better look in the end.

Look up a recipe for a BBQ meat rub with dry spices, I'm sure food network will have recipes and put in a jar with a homemade apron. If your husband is handy with wood have him make a "cornhole" game, you can search it on google or yahoo and find the plans and build and customize. My husbands family loves this game. He could even make/buy a shadow box and fill it with favorite pictures and mementos. I made my husband a hat rack, I purchased a unfinished wood one at Michael's Arts and Crafts and unfinished wood letters. I painted the letters and the rack in his favorite sports teams colors and spelled out the team name and attached it to the top of the rack. He has it in his football room and uses it everyday.

It depends what his interests are. One of my husband's most treasured gifts was from a relative: a collection of hand-tied streamers for fly fishing. They were beautiful!

If he's into sports or was on a team, get a picture of him with his team, for instance, and enlarge it and frame it. I did this for my dad (a picture of him on his college crew team) and my husband, with his high school baseball team. Those are easy, since you can do them right at a drugstore, for few bucks AND get a frame there too!

The person who said electronics was right about most guys, IMO, but you specifically wrote "homemade"!

Unique Hot Cocoa- get different blend recipes off the internet. Put in a mason jar and decorate with a peppermint stick tied to the lid. Cookie Mix in a jar- layer dry ingredients to a cookie recipe into a mason jar. Looks so cute. Use a recipe that has a variety of textured ingredients to get some variation in height and color in the jar (walnuts, chocolate chips, etc). Tie the directions (with instructions to add the wet ingredients) to the lid. Merry CHRISTmas!!

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/hStSd
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Well it looks like you have plenty of good answers so far...But I agree with the picture ideas the most...Why not get a picture of ur husband when he was a baby and a picture of your husbands dad as a baby and buy a double frame then put ur father in laws picture on the left and ur husbands picture on the right....embellish with stickers or decorations...I am sure he will love that.

I did this once, for a fisherman. I took an empty tuna can, (left the label on), and filled it with spanish moss. (hold everything in place w/hot glue) Then I took some brown pipe stem cleaners, and fashioned some squiggly worms poking their heads out from under the moss. I glued wiggle eyes on the worms. Then, I took a small piece of cardstock,& wrote -- "don't you go opening up another can of worms!" on it. I glued that to a toothpick, and stuck it in the can, with a worm wrapped around it, & shazam -- They loved it. Have fun!
