Probably.
The blue screen has some information on it - usually telling some kind of error was found somewhere.
If you'd read that information to us, we could help you more.
Still, loading XP on the laptop will probably fix the error for now.

Not likely. You need to know whats ausing it first, its quite possibly a hardware fault, or a driver fault. Next time it happens make a note of the memory reference it gives, and any other information, and do a Google search for that info. You'll almost certainly find several forums discussing your particular problem, with various solutions.
The sticker that says "designed for Windows XP" is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, to tell punters who don't know whats going on that the computer is capable (ie good enough) to run XP.

Nope.
BSoD means that there is a piece of software that fails completely and cannot be recovered safely.
This could be hardware drivers or software that manages the RAM.
You will be thankful to know that
XBOX has a Green Screen of Death
PSP has a Blue Screen of Death
Vista has a Red Screen of Death
the list just goes on.
To fix the problem update your drivers.
Update your motherboard drivers/audio card drivers/video drivers/etc.
This usually minimizes the chance of a BSoD.

You are likely getting the BSS because of spyware on an unprotected XP system. Clean the bugs off with Adaware in SAFEMODE, and boot. see if it comes up normal.
2000 is not long for support via Microslop.. XP and soon Vista.

It will go away, away with your files and settings. Unless you have partitioned your drive, in which case you can load Win XP on the other partition and extract your files from the other while you're in Win XP (hoping you've not put your files in your Account folders).
