What must a film director have to be considered a good,outstanding one?

Academy awards, while political, are still worthy of accolades. People forget that George Lucas was nominated in 1977, and got a "special" award for Star Wars, hence the "great" label.

Then there are people like Jim Jarmusch who hasnt been nominated for anything, but is great too...

How about "one who has made an impact"?

To be a good, outstanding film director you MUST direct a good, outstanding film. That's it. :-)
