Chomsky is a skilled linguist. He's shown no special ability in the field of politics, where he is just a crappy leftist hate-spewer with nothing but senseless ideas.
He doesn't evoke fear, he evokes laughter and derision from us. The funniest thing is how you people fawn over the crap he spews like it's gold.

While Chomsky is popular in some academic circles, I think it is an overstatement to say "right wing fanatics" are afraid of him. Frankly, Chomsky is simply not that influential. I think conservatives are much more "afraid' of Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama... people who could become the next president.

Other than having a good vocabulary, and the dubious honor of being respected by the media and the left (if those are separate anyway), and lacking in the self-control most of us exercise when asked to expound on subjects about which we know nothing, he's a fairly ordinary guy suffering from some rather common self-image deficiencies, which he displaces on his own ethnicity and country.
What's to fear about that?

Why ask why? The right wing knows when they're outmatched. That's why they resort to insult, character assassination, and slander.
