You don't have to start a full time business! You can start with something that only takes 1-2 hours a day (for example, sell items on eBay).
Actually you really want to start learning about business first. I would suggest going to your library and checking out the audio books first. You can listen to them on your way to work. There is one book that I think is vital. It is called The E Myth. It shows that the key to business is not to work at the business, but work at running the business. Basically, if you are a hairdresser, you shouldn't open a salon because then you will do nothing but cut hair all day and not spend time reviewing the business.
Also remember that it will take time to get to a point where you can quit your day job. Don't spend what you earn with the business, reinvest it! (I would also recommend Rich Dad Secrets).
As they say, it takes money to make money, but how much money. If you take just $1.00 and buy something and sell it for $1.05, you then have $1.05 to buy something new and then sell it for $1.12 and so on and so on.

ORGANIZE your time...it's tough tho I have my own business and it's tough, you've gotta have a lot of financial back up argggg! are you sure you want to do this?
