As the friend what the password is!

You could re-format the hard drive and start over.

Just a thought. Ask your friend for the password. If I were you, I'd give it back and ask them to fix it up for you. If this is an OS password, they have to have it or that PC was useless to them in the first place. You don't give any info as if this is the bios password, your OS's administrator or user password and you don't even say what operating system this . If it's a bios password, it's easy enough. Note your bios settings, shut down the PC, ground yourself and jumper the pins on the motherboard marked "clr cmos". That erases the bios info, along with the bios password. When the machine boots up next it will rediscover all the hardware components. If there were any special settings, you can now revert them back as there's no admin privileges password. If you wish, you can now create a new password for the bios.
The long way around it, if this is an OS password issue, is to re partition the drive and reformat. They should have done that anyway, before selling it to you.

when the window pops up to type in the name/password
don't type anything in either section
just hit cancel
it should load up
but if there is stuff in there that your friend had you won't be able to access it
and - if your friend can give you the password you can get into the password section and change it - once that's done reboot with your new name and password
