Other than hurting himself/herself, what makes a child cry?

the same thing that would make an older person cry, hunger, sadness, hurt feelings, if they are a baby or a toddler who can't talk crying lets us know something is wrong, dirty diaper, wanting to be held or played with, loneliness,frustration lots of things.

Aside from hurting both physically or emotionally, there's fear, worrying, and any other reason for being sad. It's also used when they want attention.
