Well, aren't you scrooge! I suggest you keep your displeasure to yourself. Your bosses really don't care how you feel. But if you try to rain on everyone else's Christmas, they may just decide they can do without a curmudgeon like you on the payroll!

Sometimes you just need to let it be. I used to work for a state university and they told us we couldn't put up anything like a christmas tree unless we showed all religious things. I think it is a nice cozy thing and it really doesn't scream christianity. I mean its just a pretty tree. I think that you should let it go if it doesn't offend you and get on the christmas committee next year and state that some people may not feel comfortable with it. There are other "happy holiday" type stuff that they can do to make their area look nice. Suggest snowmen or wintery stuff. But this year, let it be or let someone else say something if they feel offended. I know people who aren't Christians and they still think the tree is pretty and don't take offence.

I mean if your intent is to get people in trouble for this display then there will be controversy but if you are simply saying what about the other religions then I don't see why you can't bring the issues up with the person responsible for the decorations. In all honesty I'm agnostic and I could care less when I am walking past a Christmas tree it's just not that important to make an issue of it to me , I don't think it hurts anyone to have to see it esp. when people who aren't practicing any religion still celebrate Christmas. I think a good solution would be to make the suggestion of also putting up a menorah, and other symbols from other religious holidays celebrated around this time or to get them to take it down if it bothers you that much. But honestly would you make them take down the huge tree in the middle of Rockefeller center? Take comfort in the fact that it's your job so they most likely won't keep the tree up til march.

Suggest politely to building management (anonymously if you wish, but you won't get in trouble for it anyway) that they should consider a more inclusive holiday display - put up some stuff celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. Please remember that most people feel that a Christmas tree is far less offensive than a nativity scene - Christmas is often celebrated as more of an national holiday than a religious one.

If the building is not owned by your company, they have no power and no right to get you punished/fired for a simple suggestion; however, since they are a private company, they are also not required to take down their Christmas display.

Your description makes it seem as you are not personally offended, but are instead offended on behalf of other people who are not Christian.

HOW __DARE__ YOU PRESUME TO KNOW WHETHER OR NOT WE (non-Christians) ARE OFFENDED BY A DECORATED TREE???

I am offended by YOU...thinking you know how I think and feel, forcing your thoughts and beliefs on us non-Christians. Stop ram-rodding your self-righteousness down other people's throats.

If I am offended, I have a mouth, I can make my own complaints.

Stop treating us non-Christians like we are less than human because we have not spoken up for ourselves over sparlky trees and a fat guy in a red suit giving out presents. Did the thought ever occur to you that not all non-Christians are offended by the concept of Christmas? You didn't did you? That's what is so offensive about what you are suggesting.

If you are offended, suck it up. I am offended by Kwanzaa cards in Hallmark, Star of Davids in stores. Just kidding, I am not offended....I just don't care. To get offended about something like that is just lame and a waste of time and energy. Get over it. You can be offended, but then MOVE ON. If you want an offensive free environment, move into a cave with no TV or radio and stay there....forever.

Why not ask if they are going to put up decorations that are more multi-cultural? Having the tree does no harm to you, but you could show more interest in representing all religions, not just Christianity.

You can't really ask them to take it down but what you can do is suggest they add a menorah or mshumaa(Similar to a menorah but for Kwanzaa) to the lobby to represent the other religious customs as well.

I am offended by your poor spelling ability. If you are going to take the time to ask the most absurd question that doesn't even effect you ,then please take one second to proof read your work. I would let your displeasure toward the tree go, you pathetic loser. I am surprised that you have not been fired for incompetence, please don't tell me that your job requires you to correspond in writing. Sad, sad, sad!!!

What is offensive?

It's just a tree.

Think of it as a celebration of goodwill for the season - not a particular association with any single group or entity.

Let's save the complaints for legitimate violations.
