Maybe the best personal gift would be something from the heart. Not even a store bought gift. Usually, something you've personally made (or, had made) specifically for this true friend.
Possibly spending time together and sharing ideas of what Christmas is about, what each other's friendship means to the both of you, what life means, etc. Or, taking time to go some place special, take pictures, something you can look back on and remember as a special time shared by two friends.
If buying a gift is important to you, again make it something personal, maybe something they wouldn't buy for themselves, or even think to buy.
If this person is a true friend, whatever gift you decide to give them will be special. Happy Holidays!

A gift of your time is the very best thing you can do for that person in your life who has all the material things they could possibly want. Take them somewhere nice for dinner and then present them with a card that includes a handwritten note telling them how much they mean to you. Make them something or have something made for them...something personal that only a friend would know they like...the options are endless if you really know the person.

Friends are different than family. For family, the typical gifts are something they need. Since your friend is not family and has everything they want or need, SOmething special and unique is just what is warranted. Tickets to a play in which you both love, or a sports team.

Pictures are priceless. Do they have any children? I "kidnaped" my friends children for a day and told her I wanted to take her kids away so that she could have a relaxing day to herself (this is a present in itself!). I than took the kids to "The picture people" to get professional photos taken. This was her gift for Christmas last year. She was shocked and tearfully happy with the thought I put into it.
