The purpose of schools is to educate children. If money is needed for educational supplies or teachers, then the sports programs that aren't self supporting should be eliminated. It is up to the parents and fans of the sport involved to take enough interest to keep it going. The school isn't required to support sports teams, only provide an education.

High school sports programs should support themselves. Football does. There is no reason any school should close or decrease any needed studies in favor of sports. Some sports whilefun for the kids do not paay for themselves and should be reduced.
However I think all high school sports are inequal in the eyes of the constitution.
All sports teams should have an equal cross section of players from th eraces, if the city high is 55% black than the team should be 55% balck and $45% white or other. There is no excuse for 99% black sports or ((% white teams when the race ratio differs.
I also think all teams should play all players equal though the game.
The school sports system is not designed for "nathaniel" to get the foot ball 85% of the time. It's supposed to be a team effort and when the coaches dileberately don't use some players or over use some it's racial bias on the part of the coaching staff and the school for allowing it.
We have teachers with a life time of dedication making 35,000 a year in school systems where the head foot ball coach is making 125,000 and up plus benmefits if he moives onm like several years of unearned salaries. This is not fair in Colleges and universities and it is not fair in high schools. If someone has to be fired because he has a losing reciord than we don't owe him/her hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The main theme is education not sports. Sports should always take a back seat to academic programs. Very few make it to the pros, while many millions make in to the work place and need all the academic help possible. Let the Pros worry about their players not high schools or colleges who need their funds for education.
Education systems are also at fault in the they punish students with 12 years of english, general repeat math, study hall every year that could be better spend in class. and many sports secessions are not neccessary such as recess twice a day, Gym for those with more interest in academic programs.

Academics are way more important than football or basketball or baseball or whatever. You can't be a computer programmer with football plays. You can't become an architect with record basketball shots. And what do you do when school is over and your sports career is over and all you know is how to hit a home run? You couldn't even be a janitor at your alma mater because you wouldn't have a diploma. I'm not saying that kids don't need exercise. Everyone does. But organized sports in schools ought to be abolished altogether and the focus be put on learning. What does organized sports in school do anyway except make jocks think they're better than everyone else? Of course, what would all those stuck up, ditzy chicks do if they couldn't be cheerleaders?

Go to your local college library (this is something that probably will not be easily found on the net) Do an ERIC search on athletic school funding and academic funding. With No Child left behind, school districts are becoming frantic for funds to pay for the extra tutoring and placind students in other schools, the money needs to come from somewhere and the first programs to go are the unneccessary ones. _ Music, art and athletics High school athletics do not finance themselves. The majority comes from the school budget. A school without an athletic program will not be closed, A school whose students are not reaching the students academically will be closed.

It's way too easy to just say cut sports---what you aren't understanding is that they aren't just cutting sports. They are cutting EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. That includes speech, band, choir, National Honor Society, drama, Foreign Language clubs etc. Why don't we put a priority on education funding and quit hacking away at it? Why don't we quit TESTING these kids to death & actually teach them something? Answer...because the current administration is too chicken to step up and admit that NCLB is a huge mistake & a waste of tax payers $$$. Also--just an FYI--in the towns where the parents pay for athletics, I know from personal experience that the parent who gives $5,000 to the hockey boosters---his son starts. The parent who can only afford to give $100 and volunteers his time---his kid sits the bench because he has no leverage. You're asking for a nightmare in letting parents have financial control of sports.

They shouldn't!!! Schools need to educate the whole child. That encompasses academics, sports or athletics as well as music, art, dance, and other extra-curricular programs..

Take the opposing argument.

because such issues are a luxury, think ofyou've got to fund it your self. constructive that is an fairly good probability yet in case you are able to not manage to pay for it, you won't be able to do it. If this technique does no longer provide any style of economic help, you're on your own. Ask acquaintances and relations for help. you'll get a job for sure yet do not assume a agency to pay you up the front. Sorry to be blunt, yet been there finished that. i might want to not in any respect do such issues as that as a baby because my dad purely couldn't manage to pay for it.

education is more important because 99 percent of us will use it to work, and 1 percent play sports for money when they grow up. so education is better for more people, but the state should fund schools enough for sports as well.
