You can say that you approached it as a new challenge & made sure to take initiative by asking questions when necessary, but that ultimately you were able to complete the assignment on your own. You considered it to be a learning experience & did your best to make sure it was completed in a timely & professional manner. Afterwards you felt you had learned how to better approach the challenge of taking on new work as well as how to organize your time.

Bottom line: They are looking to see that you

1. recognized that you did not know what you didn't know.
2. either were willing/able to learn or sought help/direction.

As for the result... they really are interested in knowing whether you followed up well. Did you actually stick around long enough to know what happened? If you did a good job, great... if you didn't do a good job, did you (1) recognize that... and (2) take preventative measures to improve your performance next time?

I would ask for more direction. THen once I have enough info I could run with the project, or say I would take the task then ask someone else or take the task and look online how to do it? Ithink the first answer is best, it shows you can ask for help and then be on my own to finish it.

just tell them that you would ask someone for help. that shows that you arewilling to learn new things and won't just try to wing it and maybe mess things up
