I just answered this question a little a few minutes ago. It is a varying region with cool highlands and tropical lowlands. There are long stretches of beach. There are cities jam packed like Hanoi and Saigon (Ho Chi Minh) as well as small coastal and hillside towns. You can see the extremes of wealth in the cities as well as the poor all lumped together. The Asian history is at every turn with Chinese influences as well as Cham and Khmer influences in the south. There are dense rain forest like areas and the Mekong delta area is a biologists dream. The country is struggling to balance the new ways of their educated youth as they enter a new era of ASEAN influenced SE Asian economic partnershipswith a growing economy.
Just as you pass a field of rice patties you may see a sign for an internet cafe. And don't be surprised if the kid inside knows as much as you do! Search online and get pics man. It's so cool!
