I think they are wonderful TOOL when used correctly. I use one for my daughter when she is upset and that's it. It's not taken to bed or stuck in her mouth all day long. They are wonderful soothers for young babies :)

I love them! I think they are great for a baby. Not for toddlers. But not all children take them. I have found that the children who need them the most don't take them as well. They are too fussy etc. to learn or take them. I wean the babies from them before the first birthday. I did use one once for a toddler on a trip through the mountains to help ear pressure, but that was a one day deal and I had to buy one!

I think they are great until a certain age. I got mine off of the binky about a month ago and she is doing fine with out it. Although sometimes I wish I still had one to quiet her sometimes. It all depends on when you and your shild is ready. But you should get rid of it before she becomes dependent on it because that will make it harder for both you and her when it is time to get rid of it.

Hello,

Well, my twins were born preemies and to soothe them, or quiet them down, in the hospital, the nurses gave them Soothie Pacifiers.

Until they were 5 months old, they sucked on their binkies.

When they turned 10 months old, they began using these new binkies that are dentist approved. I think their names are NUK??

They love them and I am just glad they use the binkies and not their thumbs.

If you have to choose one of the above, I would rather my twins us the binkies.

Hope this helps you................................................... :-O

Some parents refuse them afraid that their child will be too attached and getting rid of it would be too dificult. Thing is, if a baby needs to suck, they will. What's easier, getting rid of a paci or a body part? It's good for babies to suck. Would you choose to not give your child a bottle because they may get too attached and it become difficult to wean? It's just another part of being a parent. Another stage to begin with. I've just watched my child and when him and I were ready we got rid of it. My son was off by 10 mths. My daughter, well she prefers her thumb so in a few months I may be asking how to stop that. :) Best of Luck!

I see nothing wrong with them as long as you don't let your child have them all day long. Other then that I dont think there is anything bad about using it as a soother for the baby.

first things first - pacifiers may reduce the risk of SIDS, so the AAP (american academy of pediatrics) recommends paci use at night.

my son absolutely needed one when he was very young, now he mainly uses it when he goes to sleep, but then it falls out and he can continue to sleep.

dentists will tell you to get rid of it by 18 months to allow for proper alignment of teeth. also, it's easier to break the habit earlier rather than later.

I think theyre ok for the first month or two and after that totally ween them off before they get accustomed to them. otherwise next thing you know theyll be 2 and still use them....it so bugs me to see kids in stores that are 2 and have them in their mouth. my son only used them for 2 months and that was it.

i like them. it's better than the thumb. kids will suck on their hands to soothe themselves if they can't find anything else. and the pacifiers are orthodontic.
