Gwynn and Ripkin are shoe-ins for the hall. McGwire will not make it for at least for a few years if ever. When he faced congress a couple of years ago he really hurt himself when confronted about his possible use of steroid. Of course he admitted to the use of a certain steroid in 1998 when he "broke" Maris record.
One of my biggest concerns is that there are players that should be in the hall and for whatever reason have yet to be voted in. Among my own personal list are players like, Jice Rice, Dave Parker, Don Mattingly, Dwight Evans, Lee Smith, Alan Trammell, Jack Morris, and of course the "Goose" Rich Gossage.
Somebody please tell me why these guys are not hall of famers????

Cal RIpkin and Tony Gwynn are shoe ins. However, Mark McGwire depends on how much of an issue the steroids is. Many of the sportswriters that vote for the Hall of Fame may choose not to vote on McGwire after the allegations of steroids. McGwire is really the first big names of the steroids era to be eligible for the Hall of Fame and though I think since there is no hard evidence that the players were using steroids, I think the baseball writers will keep McGwire out for a few years. On the other hand, I think he should be and will be in the Hall of Fame eventually. I think baseball writers will not give him the honor of being a first ballot hall of famer.

Cal Ripkin Jr. for sure!! He'll go unanimously. He is a classic in every sense of the word. A wonderful human being, a remarkable ballplayer, and the owner of an unbreakable record.
Mark McGwire has had some controversy, so that one won't be as sure. I don't know enough about Tony Gwynn to comment.

I would like to say I agree with everyone on The Mick "7"'s list but I would like to add Dave Concepcion.
Ripkin, Gwynn, and McGwire are the only ones I know on the list so I can't comment for the others, with that said, I think Ripkin and Gwynn should make it and McGwire should not.

Ripkin Jr. and Gwynn are no brainers.
McGwire, regardless of the steroid issue goes in. I think reporters will remember him more for how he and Sosa brought the fans and the interest back to the game after the last baseball strike.
Orel Hershiser.......remember that consecutive innings without a run. And could have been the most dominant pitcher during his time.
Other than them, I think Mattingly, Jack Morris, Alan Trammell, and Lee Smith.

Cal and Tony deserve the award more than anyone. They were great players and great members of their respective communities. Mark McGwire, however, has tainted the name of baseball and hardly even deserves a mentioning on the ballot. Coming from the St. Louis area, I can say first hand that he was never a true Cardinal, and barely helped improve baseball. I would be offended if McGwire were admitted.

Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn will make it in their first try. McGwire will make in 5-6 years, when people have forgotten about his performance enhancing, and start looking at his stats only. Jim Rice or Goose Gossage could sneak in too. It would be nice if Buck O'Neill made it too. He deserves it.

Ripken and Gwynn are in. No questions asked.
McGwire is a tougher call. Sportswriters aren't about principles, or even stats, they are about who they like and dislike.
Jim Rice is an example of this. He was a player with good numbers, and in his prime was one of the most feared hitters in the game. But his relationship with the press was pretty lousy, and you can see that in the votes he gets that he falls short.
So I think it comes down to how much *** McGwire was kissing during his playing days as to whether he makes the Hall or not.

Ripken and Gwyn will go in. Not unanimously though as not even Hank Aaron received that honor. There are too many old timers that do not believe any players should get in on their first ballot. In terms of McGwire I think he will be there but not this year I believe Rice has a better shot than McGwire.

definitely Cal Ripken Jr. because of his consecutive game streak...Mark McGwire deserves to be in but it depends on how much the steroid controversy affects the voters...Gwynn will probably be in because he had such a long, consistent career
