for larger and more rare files, torrents can be a good option if ur not concerned abt speed, or even edonkey or emule is a good option for that(like movies or vidz), but if u like speed and a not too confusing interface, then the gnutella network would be for u(limewire, frostwire, shareza)

BearShare Pro is good I've heard, I use Lime Wire, Free Download at www.Limewire.com. You can upload file to Other Platforms, and I think Vice Versa with downloads.

i like limewire--a wealth of mp3s out there, even regional ones. my friend even downloaded stuff like microsoft excel and power point from limewire
