I play an online sim game and people are all the time saying that someone has hacked into their account and stolen their sim money and items. How easy is it to hack an online game account like that if the person doesn't give out any information about themselves? I am stuck between feeling sorry for these people, and being annoyed because maybe they are just lying wanting
attention.

I'm not familiar with the sim online game. My guess would be though that the password is on the server and probably hashed so it can't be hacked.

In order for someone to steal a password under this type of security then they would have to create a "trojan" give it to that person.

So I'd just be annoyed myself, because it means they did something stupid and either gave away their password, made their password the same as their character's name or downloaded a trojan from someone they probably don't even know except through the online game.

as with anything computer related, people NEVER use secure passwords so it's a trivial matter to work out their password.

if your password is a word that's in a dictionary, CHANGE IT.

a computer with a broadband internet connection can run a list of several thousand words from the dictionary against an account in mere seconds looking for a match.

weak security questions are another backdoor that (stupid) people don't consider - like their password reset question might be "what's my name?" and their online id is "julia38". duuuhh.

people should also avoid visiting supposed login pages they've been sent in an email or via an instant messenger, they're normally faked pages which email any entered passwords and usernames to the person who set it up.

what can i say, some people have too much time on their hands.

this site will generate random SECURE passwords and should be used to replace every password you have:

Hi. Very Easy these days. Some may send u a file and lie and say is XYZ where is actually ABC. Some hackers use keyloggers. Spyware, different programs etc. It's real dangerous. Make sure u have spyware protection, Antivirus and a firewall. Laterz

fairly easy to hack... not to mention if you are dumping any kind of money into a sim world it is just disaster waiting to happen... sim money=sim world, real money=real world. I would be annoyed with them. X

at lot of people boast that they hacked people, when they do have the first clue on where to begin, i never feel sorry for the people that have been hacked, just means they didnt have any good security on their pc so they brought it on themselves.

as long as you have a upto date firewall, anti virus, anti spyware.
and do a scan every week this its very very hard to be hacked.
