So my boyfriend doesn't want to exchange any Christmas presents with ANYONE this year, including me. He says that Christmas has become too commercialised, which I can definitely understand. And he also admitted that buying presents for girls makes him nervous that they won't like it. Anyway, I still would like to give him something (nice, not dirty...). Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of writing him a nice letter/card, making him some Christmas sweets... Any other ideas (we're trying to keep it clean, please :) )?

If he's serious about Christmas becoming too commercialized as his reason, perhaps you could give a donation to his favorite charity in his name. Many charities will give you a card for your giftee letting them know about their donation.

Plan a special day for him or the two of you. You could pick up his favorite treats and let him watch football or his favorite movies all day, or you could talk to his friends and or family and find out what he loved to do during the holidays as a child. Does he love animals? Go to the zoo or volunteer at the Humane Society together. Does he love being outdoors? Pack a warm lunch and some hot cocoa and go on a hike and have a picnic.

Planning a special day together lets you spend quality time with each other and time is such a precious gift, and the memories you make will be remembered long after the holiday season is over.

It sounds great. Christmas HAS been exploited into a materialistic monstrosity. Whatever good intentions gift givers have, the problem is that material gifts have sizes, styles and other qualities that can make them as much a burden as a benefit. The symbols of love eclipse the love itself.

Give him something that won't take up storage space, something consumable that can be turned into pure memory, or something made of time and feeling rather than lifeless matter.

And encourage him to do the same. He shouldn't use his aversion as an excuse to not show his appreciation for you. It can be as simple as organizing a messy room, installing a needed shelf or tickets to a show you've shown interest in. Make it as goof-proof as possible and show gratitude with whatever he comes up with. He may need the encouragement to overcome bad experiences from the past.

The best present you could get him is to teach him to stop being selfish. Christmas doesn't have to be commercialised. It's about hope and love. He doesn't have to spend a lot of money on you, but he should do or get something. As far as your gift to him the card and goodies sound perfect. Maybe make him his favorite meal.

Ever heard of Scrooge? or cheapskate? or selfish? Ask yourself this....How do YOU REALLY feel about not receiving a Christmas Gift from him? Obviously you want to give him something, but if he does not want to exchange gifts, then save your time and money honey, he's not worth wasting either on. Find somone who knows the value showing someone he cares about that he cares and is not so negative.

I'm not saying that buying Christmas gifts is the only way to show you care, but as mentioned in many of the answers, there are ways to show someone without spending tons of money.

Yes, our society has commercialized Christmas, but that's true of ALL holidays. It's up to the individual to decide if they are going to spend, spend, spend or spend that time and money thinking of unique ways of gifting.

Good Luck with this one, I have a feeling your going to need it.

bah humbug! every person has the capability of keeping Christmas religiously directed. the magi offered gifts to the Christ-child. what better way to follow Christmas than by giving your loved ones a special gift. the gift should be as special as the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Keeo it simple and sweet. A nice card is good. If you have a way to do it, cook him a special meal. Otherwise, a Tin full of goodies and he will think of you as he eats them.

you should bake him something like a nice cake or cupcakes! i found these star shaped foil cups and i'm making star shaped cupcakes for people this year, so maybe you should find something nifty like that, that way it's not too expensive and it doesn't seem too much like a christmas gift.
