What illicit ways of persuasion you know?

For example:
1) Joining the band wagon
2) Using statistics (even flase, just to throw dust in eyes)
3) Reference to opinion of some guru :)))
4) Using phrases like "even a fool knows/understands it"

I need this for my scientific papers.
Excuse me for my possible English errors, I`m not a native speaker
Preferably want to receive "language tricks" rather than psychological ways of persuasion.
Short Examples are welcome! I guess it wil be more interesting for all participants.

Blackmail is an illicit means of persuasion.
Guilt trips are equally noxious, though less costly.
Threats to inflict bodily harm.
Or presenting a weapon .
Kidnapping.

The key is the word "Illicit."
