Lots of different things: (1) Total escape - no one really lives like people on soaps, but they always have beauty, power and money; (2) Self-esteem - On your worst day you're not as stupid as the people on soaps; in spite of their beauty, power and money, they don't have sense enough to come in out of the rain; and (3) Continuity - It's nice to go back after you've been away from a show for say 3-6 months, and not only are the same people still there, they're acting the same way. It's kind of like going home for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I really like Days of Our Lives.....mainly because i have been watching it for 20 of my 27 years living....my mom used to watch it and then i got hooked on soaps and continued to watch them....they are exciting just like nightime shows....i only watch them once a week so i keep with what's going on by going to soapdigest.com or nbc.com....i am not addicted but if i didn't have a job i probrably would be...i also like Passions(the majority of the cast is young between 20 and 40) and Young and the Restless(a classic...my mom and grandmother watches this one also)

I have watched soaps with my grandma since I was little. I usually watch The Young and the Restless and As the World Turns. I watch them because you know that some of the situations couldn't really happen in the real world. I think they are so interesting to watch.

I watch Days of Our Lives and Passions. I guess I watch Days mostly because I've done so since I was 19. It's a fun little diversion to watch every day when I get home courtesy of Tivo. The storylines on shows like Passions are so farfetched that it makes me feel like my life is normal. Plus, with Soaps, we get attached to the characters and feel like we've come to know them and grow with them. It's hard to totally quit watching a show that you've watched for years.

I watch Days of Our Lives. I tape it while I’m at work and come home to watch it. I do that so I have something to watch when nothing else is on, but it’s not that I HAVE to follow it. I don’t even care if I miss a day here and there, because it moves SO slow that I’d easily catch up. Yeah, even though I watch it, I agree that some of that stuff is stupid. They keep re-using storylines, as if they can’t come up with new ones. And some of it is literally stupid, like when Marlena was possessed by a demon (this happened like 10 years ago)…I thought that was REALLY lame. I don’t like Days of Our Lives the same way I like Grey’s Anatomy or LOST, etc. Days just gives me something to watch, which is better than nothing. It’s not like I sit in front of the TV screen devoting 100% of my attention to it. If I need to do something else, I leave it on and listen to it and half watch it, while doing something else.

I've watched soaps since I was two, my grandma and my great-grandma watched, it's almost a tradition, you see the same people day after day, I watch Days and General Hospital, they have had some of the same people on since I was two and they're almost like part of the family, it brings back good memories, and for an hour or two a day you can forget your own problems and get lost in their fake ones.

The Drama and it isn't mine or anyone I know. It's all made up, and some of it is believable while MOST of it isn't.
