What makes us see someone as beautiful? Did you ever wonder why we think the movie stars are beautiful, blue eyes are prettier than brown let's say, or a thin nose is prettier than a fat one? I've wondered where our eye for beauty, our standard for it comes from. I can't figure out for the life of me where. Any ideas??

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Each of us sees everybody else differently. What might seem to be absolutely beautiful to you, may be kind of average to me.

Or vice versa.

It is all in the perception, and the perceptions we have are from our experience, our knowledge, and mentality.

Psychologists have actually done studies on this, and apparently it's hard-wired into the brain. People across all races, nationalities, and beliefs share a reasonably similar view on what a beautiful person is, disregarding their own preferences. That is, even if you're not fond of the way, say, Asians look, you can probably still tell an attractive Asian from an unattractive one. Also, people tend to find that symmetry is an important factor in beauty, and it's believed that physical beauty and well-being are a sign of good health - a conscious and unconscious flag for a good mate.

Hope that helped! Cheers!

It all boils down to individual taste. Personally on a man I prefer the typical tall dark and handsome. Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix, to me, are the most beautiful celebrities. My husband has an olive complexion and dark hair.

it starts in the eye of the beholder, but society has slowly determined what they think beauty is and people tend to follow the crowd,an example of what society thinks is beautiful is Julia Roberts,i never thought she was that pretty, but because the media says she is everyone believes it

It is very personal, if you personally think that blue eyes are better than black eyes then it is so for you, if you think that narrow eyes are worse than wide eyes - it is true for you, if you think that small nice nose is nicer than big uneven nose then it is true for you.

Because some folks are pretty some are not. Actually, I don't think the majority of the stars in Hollywood are that attractive anymore. And the ones who are aren't liked as much... (discluding Tom Cruise of course)
