My husband and I are in the opposite situation. I have a white gold band, and he has a yellow gold band.
We kept mine gold rather than platinum because in a wedding ring, the circle is for unity, the gold is for purity, and the diamond is for eternity.

You can do what the girl above me said, and compromise but you dont necessarily have to do that.
There are hardly any more conventional weddings in existence anymore.
If you are looking to have matching sets then I could see where you would run into a problem, but most jewelers have same sets in different metals, so you shouldn't have any problems.
My mother has a yellow gold ring and her husband has a titanium ring (like dark silver). I've seen many couples with different metal sets.

Maybe the jewler could make a band that was mostly yellow gold with a white gold inset and then a mostly white gold band with a yellow inset, that way the bands still match and each person would wear the band that had the majority of their preferred metal.

Honey, gone are the days of mandatory coordination :) You can express and be yourself with your jewelry choices! If he likes silver, let him choose a silver colored band. He could choose sterling silver, or platinum, or white gold. If you like the gold, then you go ahead and pick a yellow gold band! My husband and I don't have matching bands, not even close, but they're ours and we picked them out together and they're perfect for us.

Do white gold. Or find rings that have the exact same design, if not similar. Not everyone looks good in the same metal.

I say, get what you want.
Its more important for both of you to be happy than for one person to be stuck with something they hate. I dislike yellow gold on me, so it would have to be platinum or white gold, if he wanted otherwise, fine.

My parents were that way. They compromised and had white gold wedding bands.

You can compromise on one or the other, gets rings that include both metals or simply have different colored rings.

if you are not engaged than there is really not too much you need to worry about as long as your engagement ring is not uncoordinated but if it is love you'll roll with it.
