I love Sharpies - swimmers use sharpies. They write their event, heat and lanes on their legs and arms. (sometimes they write things like 'eat my bubbles' on each others backs too). Sharpie stays on through the warm up to the last heat of the day. Parents and kids alike are always asking "Anyone got a sharpie?, Can I borrow that sharpie?" They never ask for a pen or a permanent marker - always a sharpie. And if someone pulls out a sharpie in a colour other than black or blue the kids clamour for it. Don't know if this will help you.
