The heart is not a gland, therefore it does not produce a hormone, however, the body produces a hormone when the heart is not pumping well and we use this in the ER to determine if a pt is at risk for heart failure.

hormone B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) A low level means the heart is working well. But an elevated level is proof the patient has heart trouble because the body releases the hormone when the heart is not pumping properly.
