Toffeefan said a mouthful
Its why they had a vote on the draft the other day
That bill was only bought to the floor to get Americans to wake up and be aware about what was goin on in Iraq
Its why Clinton shut down Govt back in the early 90's
To stop congress from passing bonehead pork filled budgets like we now have
As badly as the federal govt has performed in the 6 yrs its our own fault if we dont get involved

Don't know if you are going to see those issues dealt with in the upcoming congress. Remember, the President can veto any bill he does not approve of. Likewise Congress can refuse to take to the floor any issue they do not want a vote on.

The jig appears to be up for representative government because the citizens of this country have allowed it to be up, not because congress or the president has failed to act. We have the final say and we have refused to exercise that responsibility. Instead we have allowed ourselves to be caught up in the morass of divisiveness, arguments over legislating morality, passing laws based on religious beliefs, and negative tactics.

When looking at the failures of our political system remember the old biblical adage "let he among you who is without sin cast the first stone". We need to throw the rocks at ourselves, or as Pogo (for those who remember the old comic strip) said so eloquently "we have met the enemy and he is us".

This system will work as well, or as poorly as we demand. Maybe it's time we all stood up walked to our doors, took to the streets and started demanding.

Apparently you are going to have problems until you realize that the government can 'perform' even if you disagree politically.

Just because you think some issues are important does not mean that the majority agrees.

Elect new representatives. The fact of the matter is, even with its flaws, a representative Republic is the best form of government man has ever created. To change it would be madness.

I, for one will be voting Libertarian. It is obvious that the two parties that have been running things for years don't have a clue. The only thing they seem to know, is taking our money and spending it on programs that do not work or require more money.
