The cop was a State Highway Patrol, not an ordinary city cop...

There should be a phone number on the back of the ticket. She can call that and find out what the amount is.

Usually, over 20 miles per hour over the legal limit is considered reckless driving, especially if you are not on an interstate highway. This may be why your girlfriend was given a summons to appear in court. Depending upon what state you live in, this could be a pretty heavy fine, probably $300+, and driving school. In the Carolinas, anything over 20mph over the speed limit usually carries jail time.

In NC, 15 miles over is a mandatory 30 day ban if you are lucky. 82 in a 55 is a LOT over. I imagine most states would see that as a more serious offense than, say, 10 miles over. Get an attorney. it will be money well spent if it can be pled down to a lesser offense

I know in some states, exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph or more is punishable a suspension of the DL.

If that is all she gets, she should consider herself lucky. I got nailed for going 54 in a 30 when I was 16. Lost my license for a year and my parents couldn't get me insurance until I turned 18...which meant, I couldn't drive until I was 18.

she will probably have to pay a fine and attend driving school. In indiana, if you are caught going 21 mph over the speed limit you are automatically required to take a driving course.

where you are will constitute the fine. even within a state different jurisdictions will have different fines for the same speed infraction.
Example: Allen county Indiana 15mph over = $150.00 Adams County Indiana 15mph over = $80.00 (not exact, but you get the picture)

Her penalty will be set by the judge. At 25 over the speed limit - it is going to be a very expensive fine.

A ticket for 82 isn't so bad. I would give her 10 dollars for 69!

USA? What state? Here in NY State, if she pleads guilty it's mandatory points on her license, mandatory court costs (about $125) and mandatory fine for 27 mph over the speed limit (about $800).

Depends upon the state. With this high of a speed, I would consider getting a lawyer to talk to the prosecutor ahead of time.

27 miles over? Alot......she will get a notice in the mail with the amount of the fine. She might want to opt for traffic school if she is eligible for it.
