To Erica B:

Why do you question who I am?

As a matter of fact, if it is such a stupid question, why answer?

Is'nt that rather stupid of you?

I hate to say this, but some of my own people are very very ignorant.

How sad

In my town there's hardly any black folks, so when I see one I tend to look at them for a second. So far no one's seemed to notice. It's such a striking difference from the usual white old folks or ubiquitous Mexicans.

If your black then why would you bother asking such a stupid question? Obviously when you are a minority in an area, your race will be an issue because everything is catered to the other race. When you race effects how everyone treats you then of course your race will be an issue.

I would say that you are ignorant, but it is just denial. I mean seriously, why would you be asking this question if you yourself wasn't obsessed with race? Most whites dont' have as much of an awareness of race meaning that they don't think about their own. Because they are the majority they don't have too.

A good program for you to watch is called Black White. It was a T.V. show that aired on the FX channel about two years ago. A white family and a black family changed their races to the opposite by make-up and saw what it was like to be in another skin. I think it is available on DVD now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this question, as I too am black and think that some black people are more obsessed with race issues than others are...

My parents raised me with the principle that I need to work 10 times harder than the majority to be a successful, beautiful black woman.

My parents also raised me with the principle that I need to NOT feel sorry for myself just because I am a minority. Why fall behind just because we're too busy worrying about how "advantaged" the rest of the world is? I'm not saying racism and discrimination don't exist, cuz they do and I've experienced them. I am saying, though, that life is too short to let these things hold you down.

So yes, some black people are a bit more "colorstruck" than others.

As much as some of us want to deny this, people in general do stick within their color. For some, it really doesn't matter. I don't know. I have a lot of friends from different backgrounds, and I must tell you, it's a lot more interesting than just sticking to your color race. It all depends on where you grew up and how you grew up. There is a difference in opinions about this, for example, between the people who live in the suburbs and those who grew up in the city.
