Personally, i have a lot of favourites because Heavy-Metal music, can cover a wide spectrum, from Nightwish, to Slipknot, To Cradle of Filth, there are loads out there.
I personally think either Nightwish or Cradle of Filth

Some of my favorites are Judas Priest, Megadeth and Iron Maiden, but some more contemporary great bands are Angra, Children of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Pain of Salvation, Sinergy, Nightwish and Symphony X. But you can´t say there is a BEST band, all of them are sometimes sooo different you can´t really compare. Each has something special about it that makes it unique, and that´s what makes them all great.

Metallica. Even though they are egotistical maniacs, their music has been consistently great since about 1985. There are not many other heavy metal bands that can say the same thing.

Some of my older favorites are Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden and Overkill. Some of the newer bands I like are DevilDriver, Bleeding Through, Slipknot and Still Remains.
