I'm looking for ideas of SPECIFIC toys that you've had success with around this age. Something he can play with while sitting on the floor, but that will grow with him a little bit or at least keep his interest for a few months (hopefully). Between the $25-$75 range and not so big that it takes up the entire living room floor. He already has an exersaucer & jumperoo and we're looking for a unique Christmas gift.

My son loves the NooBoo Stacker
(9m+, Manhattan Toy, $35 Canadian, includes 2 AA batteries)

The best thing about this stacking toy is that the rings don't need to be stacked from largest ring to smallest. They can go on in any order so it's not frustrating for younger babies. The child is rewarded and encouraged by fun sounds when they pull rings on and off. Babies can play with the rings alone, as they have different textures and little ribbons to touch and pull.

The activity walkers are good, there are a couple of brands that make them. Also a couple brands each make the ones where you push a button, and the character popped up, ones called Play Skool Busy poppin pals. Both are 1 and 2 year old loved that. They also loved the Tiny Love Elephant Stack and Play, would put the balls in there over and over. A couple of companies also make the soft photo albums, which have been great in the car. And I cant think of the name of it, but our kids all time favorite at day care, was the one with the tubes that air shoots thru and then the ball pops up at the top, its fischer price or playskool, but they'd both fight over it :)

I have an 8 month old too and I bought him a Fisher-Price Amazing Animals Sing and Go Choo-Choo for Christmas. After reading all the positive reviews, it seems like the perfect gift! It is on sale now for $25.99 at amazon.
