Because it's probably showing only continental North America, IE, everything that's connected. Hawaii is an island.

Hawaii is not in North America - it is part of the United States as a country. That is why it is not necessary to show it on a North American map though a US map will have it, the way it has Alaska.

North America is the continent. The Hawaiian islands are not considered part of the North American continent. Although, they are part of the USA... usually, there's a separate piece added to the map to show the islands. You generally don't see them on a map of North America mainly because those islands are fairly far out in the Pacific Ocean from the continental US.

North America includes the US state of Hawaii, which is distant from the North American landmass in the Pacific Ocean and is, thus, commonly included with the other territories of Oceania. (this is from wilkipedia)
I guess this means that the definition is subjective as to whether Hawaii is included in NA or not? This is a good question...

It's on the other side of planet closer to Japan. A Mercatur map would show it though. Hawaii is not really a part of N. America it is one of the United States. Just like S. Africa is part of England but when they show England they do not show S. Africa too
