No, not at all. Deaf people don't have any more problems in Europe and Russia than in the USA. Please note though that sign language is different between countries, so very few Europeans will understand the American sign language. A pen and paper should do fine though. You'll find enough English speaking people and many Europeans are used to trying to communicate with people who don't speak the same language, so I'm sure it won't be a problem to communicate.

Just go for it and have fun. :)

Why???? They live there lives in a deaf world, what difference should it make to them traveling? They have deaf people all over the world. And you'll find most Europeans and Russians speak English anyway. So lips can still be read. I don't get your question. Why shouldn't they?

not at all. My ASL teacher, who is Deaf went to Europe. She didn't go one her own, but she was with other Deaf people. She traveled all over Europe and met Deaf people from different countries, but she had no problem because of her deafness.

Is it 'bad', not really. But, it does offer it's own set of challenges. I would check with any local organization that deals with deafness and see if they can offer any tips or insights that might make such travel safer and more enjoyable.

You might also check with the state department to see if they have dealt with any problems in this area as well.

Best of all, find a forum and see if anyone has done it and talk to them about what it was like.

Good Luck!
