On Friday a saw a disgusting display of people who have been conditioned to act like herded cows all because Corporate America tells you too.

We have holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas that are supposed to be set aside for remembrance, family, and community. Yet we as a nation have forgotten that and made the word holiday to be synonmous with time and a half and 20% off at Macy's.

Black Friday is supposed to be the start of the Chirstmas Season yet the one store that had no one in it was the Christmas Store.

Even thanksgiving is becoming tainted. Once your done the turkey why not go couch shopping. Disgusting. But coporate America exists for one purpose, profits. It is you the people who were out shopping when you should have been with your families congregating that further perpetuate this trend. It is you who are willing to stand outside of the mall at 3am to buy the latest gadget that are eroding what little culture we have.

I do not blame Coporate America but we the people for the neglect of our history on days set aside for rememberance of our troops, heritage, and past(religion, tradition, whatever).

I merely state my occupation in order to justify how I saw what I saw. The only reason I have my job is because I recently left the military and am finishing my MBA before the following Semester.

However thank you, most of you, for proving my point. That this country has no culture.

The problem is that people have bought in to advertisement. People believe that they "need" somethng just because the tv commercial says so. Or that their kid "HAS TO" have the latest and greatest toy just because some other kids parents have shelled out for it.

There isn't ANY holiday that isn't commercialized in some way anymore.

There are a lot of things wrong with the people in this country, however the country itself is not to blame. See the country is just land and some water and therefore is unable to go to a mall per se. Blame some of the people. And stop being mad that you ahve a job that made you work on a friday. Be grateful that you have one, after all, isn't that what thanksgiving is about. And The spirit of christmas is about giving right? Well all those people out there on Black Friday, I am certain the vast majority were not shopping for themselves. It is unfortunate that there are a few that act like idiots, but it is that way everyday. If that was not the case, there would be no need for you to have the job that you have.

People are dumb enough to think that they will get these great deals on toys and gifts but in the end people don't remember the really expensive gift they remember the party it was given at.

We are a nation of consumers and we are all in debt we have some twisted views on what happiness is but buying stuff must make so many people "happy" or they wouldn't do it right...

I stay home on the big shopping days and relax.

Hey it could have been worse if they released the PS3 or Wii on black Friday people would have died!

I partially agree with you in the respect that America has become more about Abercrombie & Fitch and spending $5 on a cup of coffee at Starbucks than about sharing and helping our fellow friends/family or even strangers. But I disagree with you in stating that we are furthering our disgrace by going shopping on Black Friday or on/for any holiday, when most people who actually do the shopping are looking for cheaper gifts for their family.

Just a little question for you now: Who are you to judge others? It is one thing to have an opinion, but you have no right to judge anyone who chooses to do anything. Live your life and let others be. You cannot change it so just shut up about it.

Not I, said the dog.

I fight long and hard against the encroachment of Xmas deeper and deeper into the year (Christmas ornaments at Hallmark in July; Christmas decorations before Columbus Day, Christmas songs before Thanksgiving), but it is like trying to shovel back a tidal wave with a pitchfork

Sucks doesn't it, every thing is commercialized, any everything is based on money, Capitalism is our way of life, but money is what makes the world go round. that's just the way it is, and your not the only one that dose not get a choice of not working on the holidays, Doctors, nurses, aides in nursing homes, people that work in airports, restaurants that serve Thanksgiving dinners. So you not alone in that respect, and just think of all the mothers that don't get a day off for the holidays, they are the ones that have to cook all that food while the men sit on their as*es and watch football. So I don't want to here poor me. And this country has planty of culture your just to stupid to see it.

so corporations found out that if they offer crazy sales people will come in to their store. Whats wrong with that? Business is what has given us these abilities and if they are offering a deal people are going to take advantage of that.

I have never gone shopping before december but I have no hatred toward this practice

no culture? what is an american culture? there is no such thing, never has been and never will be.

Because Santa Clause and gift giving has taken away from the true meaning of Christmas. Most kids probably don't even know that we celebrate Christmas because of Jesus Christ. I get mad because they call Christmas trees "holiday trees" now not to offend anyone. If they don't believe in Jesus, they shouldn't even celebrate his holiday. And about Thanksgiving, people don't give thanks anymore to God. They are only about taking not giving and they think that everyone "owes" them something. I have gotten to be like every year Christmas rolls around I say "Bah! Humbug"!

It's a really great thing for people who avoid unnecessary purchases and invest their discretionary income in the stock market. They can depend the other 90% of the population to increase their portfolio and secure their retirement.

I agree with you that the majority of people are idiots, but they are free to spend the holidays any way they want. Remember, every dollar they spend (waste) helps you one way or another as it fuels the economy that you depend on, like it or not.
