Advantages: Available and easy sex for people for whom sex is not otherwise easily available. A means of income for people who otherwise possess no viable skills.

Disadvantages: About the best you can do is blather about the "immorality" of prostitution, but that's obviously just lingering puritanism. Spread of disease? Nice try, but STDs don't discriminate based on whether cash was exchanged. Really there are no serious disadvantages.

Furthermore, criminalizing prostitution no more reduces the incidence of cash being exchanged for sex than criminalizing drug use leads to fewer people using drugs. It's a lie. Prohibition doesn't work. The sex-instinct is a fundamental - perhaps THE fundamental - aspect of human nature; and if its free expression is in any way inhibited, it merely goes "underground" (see the GOP). Prostitution is not the problem, but a symptom of the problem.

Speaking personally, I could never use a prostitute, because it's just as important to me sexually to know that my partner wants me too. But that's just my perversion. I think it's about time we legalized, taxed, and regulated prostitution as they do in Amsterdam and elsewhere. It's certainly NOT going away - not called the "oldest profession" for nothing.

Some advantages are that it is high-paying (or so I've heard), one doesn't need much experience for it (or any sort of education), and I guess a person can sort of choose his or her own hours as well as how often he or she works. The disadvantages are the risks of STDs and pregnancy, the fact that it is immoral, loss of reputation, and loss of self-esteem.

I guess another advantage is that a person would not have to worry about taxes too much in that job field. However, it's not a job I would recommend for anyone.

Pro:

People especially women have the opportunity to make money if they don't have anyother skills.

Also if done the right way it can be very discreet for the participants

The big CON:

STD's will end up raging out of control. If prostitutes aren't using birth control there can be unwanted pregnancies and a rise in abortions.

The disadvantages should be obvious, the peril never mind STD's

The advantages are NONE! You will become a sad person who views them self as only a commodity with no human value!

Don't do it!

Most of the answers are that the advantage would be money, but don't most prostitutes have pimps that they have to give most of the money to to keep them "safe"?
