I'm having a NEW YEAR's EVE party and at first thought I'd get all my holiday decorations down but now I'm considering leaving them up and adding some New Year's Eve flair to the mix. I hear people say it's bad luck to leave it up after New Years and then I've heard in my family that it's bad luck if you don't leave it up and it's ok to leave it up until the OLD new year. Go figure. Any one else have anyone thoughts on this. Thanks! And HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

If it makes you feel better, I put my tree up either on Thanksgiving or the day after Thanksgiving. And when I take it down, depends on what I'm feeling. Most of the time, I feel like taking it down the first week of January. Actually, I wish I could leave it up all year long because it seems like when the Christmas trees go up everyone loosens up and relaxes. Everyone should be like that all year long. That's my opinion. Hope it helps! ;)

I have neighbors who put their tree up Nov. 11th! I say it's a very personal decision and depends on whether the tree is real or fake. Obviously you can't leave a real tree up for more than 2 or 3 weeks without risking the whole house going up in flames. We always keep our tree up until New Year's day and then take it down that day. It gives the room a new feel for the new year. You might want to leave yours up for the party, but add some flair to your decorations. I never heard that it's bad luck to leave it up. One year when my oldest brother was in the Air Force he was supposed to come home for Christmas but his leave was cancelled and my mom left the tree up until March! We finally had an intervention and we all took it down together. She just couldn't deal with not having one of her kids home for the holidays.

Tradition is leaving it up until Jan 6th as stated above. We always have New Years Eve parties we go to different houses and we all leave the Christmas decorations up as is and just add the new years to it… something festive and simple is pick a color theme for your party and buy the curling ribbon you put on packages and take long streamers of it and attach to your ceiling…. It really makes a nice new years eve party look very festive and very inexpensive to do.

When it was at my house I blew up a lot of balloons and had a lot of the paper streamers and ripped open a clear plastic trash back, carefully attached it to my ceiling with everything inside and had a pull string... when midnight struck we pulled the string and it all came tumbling down on top of every one... we had a lot of fun with it...

Happy holidays to you and yours

According to tradition, the tree is trimmed on December 24 and taken down before January 6th (the Epiphany).

We always left our Christmas tree up until at least New Year's Day. Although the two days aren't related, they kind of go together.

Most people do leave theirs up until after New Years.

We put ours up around Dec. first, and take it down a day or two after Christmas.
