I'm doing a research project for my PHD in Political philosophy. The question I am tryng tosolve is about the criteria to become a secret agent.

Besides being a citizen from the country where the intelligence agency is recruiting, what other criteria is there, for example, if the agent is to infiltrate in a country like Japan? Besides having to speak the language, must he/she in this case have oriental eyes and skin colour and other physical characteristics?

And what about the way of thinking? How does an intelligent agent has to think and how does he/she has to behave, according to that way of thinking? How does he/she has to be?

Is there a specific way of thinking of a national kind? - example: a spy from X would think like a person living in Y and in so doing he would pass by as a citizan from Y. Is it this simple? Is this possible?

I really would apreciate if you gave me detailed answers.

Thank you for your help.

I'm portuguese, ok? I misspell some english words because usually I acess the french Questions&Answers, I'm more at ease replying to french rather than to jerks that use insults instead of replies.

They are called Intelligence Agencies, and usually they recruit from other agencies, the military and other specialized fields (although in times of need they do publicize their recruitment through the media). I posted a Wiki link that listed these agencies' websites from different countries. I highly doubt that anyone here can answer your questions accurately or with any degree of credibility for a PhD paper, so I think it's best that you contact these agencies and forward your questions to them.

Good luck.

The Allman Brothers?! They're probably the least emo band EVER. Anyway, emo has become an insult because as a rule all emo music sucks, even the original "hardcore" emo or whatever. Rites of Spring... **** those guys, who said they could name their shitty band after one of the greatest pieces of 20th century music? Also, the kids who listen to this stuff are generally the most pathetic slime of this generation, so it was inevitable that this term would come to be an insult. Anyway, don't get me started, emo brought this upon itself for sucking so badly.

Probably by doing their own research in a library or some other educational institution. You have a lot of simple-minded and illogical questions for someone who claims to be PHD candidate.

I do not have the answer you are looking for but you do raise a few of my own and I'm sure a real spy would not answer your question as stated. a real spy would find you first and recruit you according to your ability to understand complexity and then of course they would eventually find your true motives for wanting such skill. just an un-educated possible realistic point of view.

I apologize for not detailing, But I think a spy mentality and begaviour is very much like an AIDS virus in a human body.

From a spy point of view: He shoul be a survival, an artist in disguise, a killer without merci.
