if you starred in a movie that became a huge hit, what's the approximate amount of money you'll get paid?

Completely depends on your contract. If you get a percentage of the receipts, then you could make millions. If you got a small amount up front but nothing on the back end, you are out of luck. However, you might be able to get an agent and make some money on your next film.

Depends on your agent and your profile. If you are already famous - you can expect your agent to do the bargaining for you and you can demand millions - and/or a percentage of the net profit the movie makes. If you are an up and coming or an unknown, you will still need an agent - who will try to get the best deal you can expect - which should consist of a much smaller fee upfront and possibly a small percentage of the net profit. Sigourney Weaver was paid a measly $30,000 for her role in "Alien". Of course - her subsequent payments were significantly higher as she had greater power to negotiate.

Since it is all up front, and I am an unknown, I would get scale. If I had a sharp agent, I could get some back-end payments, when I could make a lot of money

If you're not so famous then you'll probably just get scale... Unless you have a contract stating you get a certain percentage...
