people will call him josh. my daughter's name is kandace izabella, and people in her daycare named her bella. or family members call her candi. find another name if you don't want people to call him that way because like it or not they will, just for a short name. name him what you want and forget about others.

If you really want to avoid him being called josh then you might try another name instead. Joshua will get shortened to josh. The question is will your son feel insulted if he is called josh. While in you language it may be a slam in ours it is just the shortening of a name. If he grows up being taught the idea that shortening his name to Josh is an insult then he will be highly offended when anyone does it. In fact the only time he should be offended by being called josh is when some who usually calls him joshua calls him josh and this person knows that in you language josh is an insult. If you want to try another name though I like the name Nathaniel, easily shortens to nate or nathan

My husband's name is Joshua and a lot of people call him Josh. He prefers Joshua though and only a few people call him that. It's much easier in English to just say Josh. The only suggestion is that you could tell them that you prefer Joshua, but I'm sure a lot of people will still forget and call you Josh.

People invariably give logical nick names, Davids will be Dave, Williams will be Bill and Joshuas will be Josh, however, you could go by Josiah, it's a nice biblical name that sounds a lot like Joshua (JOE-sy-uh) and it has no nick name, if you're really set on Joshua possibly spelling it j-o-s-h-u-a-h will decrease the likelyhood that you will be called Josh, but if that is an innapropriate word in your language, I'd avoid it alltogether

I love the name Joshua. But absolutely the chilld will get called Josh from time to time. Best to teach him to speak up and say "My name is Joshua". My nephew is Jeffery and if anyone calls him Jeff he corrects them right away. He is only 2 !!

You're naming yourself?

No one uses full names when there is the possibility of a nickname. So if you don't like Josh, don't do it.

Count on being called Josh. I'd look for another name with which you are equally comfortable.
