I've been having anxiety and depression issues since I got pregnant. My doctor wants to put me on an anti-depressant so that I can have a healthier pregnancy.

Have any of you had to take one of these while pregnant? Did it help?

I've been taking Zoloft since 96, but I stopped when I read it could hinder my chances of getting pregnant. I didn't take it at all with the first pregnancy and I wish I had since the "baby blues" had me dressed and leaving my newborn twins and my husband in the hospital room 36 hours after my c-section. When my husband asked me what I was doing, my explanation was that they were young enough that they wouldn't remember me and he would be just fine. Needless to say, the next time around, I took my Zoloft the entire pregnancy and the post partum was not nearly as insane. The twins are now 31/2 and the little one just turned 2. The 2 year old shows no signs that the Zoloft effected her. Honestly, I was very concerned about how/if it would but the things that I considered were 1. Zoloft is a very benign antidepressant, 2. Andrea Yates. After the episode the first time, decided I didn't want to risk it. Hope this helps.

During the 1st trimester of my 2nd pregnancy I was battling depression. My OB prescribed wellbutrin. He said it was safe while pregnant. I kept putting off taking it because I didn't want to take anything (I had tried anti-depressants years ago and they made me feel wierd). So I tried some other strategies like exercise (walking) and family support. Once I got out of my 1st trimester it went away, and I never needed the medicine. Good luck!

With my last pregnancy I was on Paxil. It worked great. Made my pregnancy much more enjoyable. With this pregnancy I have been on Effexor but we are weaning me off of it and we are going to try something else. It worked but it isn't as safe as others. If your doctor wants to give you something I would say yes. You will feel better which is way better for the baby. In the words of my doctor "having a healthy mom is just as important as having a healthy baby". I couldn't do it without my meds. Good luck and congrats.
